Press Release: UK’s Hallowed Ground adds Barossa’s Teusner to portfolio

Teusner logoHallowed Ground has recently acquired the distribution of boutique winery Teusner from the Barossa Valley, South Australia, adding to their already growing list of Antipodean boutique wineries.
Launched in 2001 by Kym Teusner, the philosophy is to produce only exceptional, affordable wines by being very selective about the fruit that Teusner sources from old, well maintained vineyards. Immediate access to some parcels of old vine Grenache from the Northern Barossa ensured that the first wine produced, Joshua in 2002, set the standard for this small, family-run winery. As a style, the wines are aromatic, balanced and elegant.

Kym aims to intervene as little as possible with the winemaking process and the result is lighter wines with good aromatics and floral notes, designed to be consumer-friendly and affordable. Teusner wants to ensure that at all times

they are fair to their growers; respect the Barossa and its old vineyards and make great wines for their customers to enjoy.
Four wines are now available in the UK, all from the 2012 vintage.

2012 saw one of the best harvests of recent times in the Barossa with good rain in winter, a mild spring with good weather and no extreme heat spikes. This meant a slow ripening period, producing beautifully balanced fruit. Kym Teusner believes these are some

of the best wines he has ever made.

The wines currently available are the 2012 Riebke Shiraz; 2012 Independent Shiraz Mataro; 2012 Joshua Grenache, Mataro, Shiraz and 2012 Avatar Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro.

Hallowed Ground Director, Amelia Jukes, says: “We are very excited to be representing Teusner Wines in the UK. We are seeing that there is a welcome place in the UK market for the more elegant and restrained wines from the Barossa region. Kym’s philosophy of winemaking is closely aligned with our own and Teusner fits into our portfolio very well, alongside our other Barossa producer Fox Gordon whose fresh and modern style complements the Teusner selection and completes our Barossa Valley offerings.”

A funky little app on my Windows Phone created that picture. It’s good for one thing at least…need to get a new iPhone.
How is Whole Foods going? Seems like you’re discovering some new wines?
