In the Loire we are more familiar with the names of Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé and Touraine but what about Sancerre’s buddy next door, Menetou –
Salon? The Eastern region of Loire is where Sauvignon Blanc calls home. This particular Sauvignon greets you with some unfamiliar savoury aromas that masks the true character of this wine. Given some time and air those savoury notes begin to diminish and reveal some soft, light green fruit and more familiar herbaceous nettle aromas.
Get it on your palate and there is no mistaking that this is a cool Sauvignon Blanc as all the hallmarks of good Menetou – Salon begin to erupt, not as intense as others I’ve had in the past but classic, classy old world fruit.
