On a recent research mission to the offices of Harpers Wine & Spirit, I was asked to come up with my top three recently tasted wines; which were to be featured in the October 2013 issue of the magazine.
After much head scratching, it is tasting season after all and a lot has been sampled, these are what I came up with –
Muscadet Sur Lie – Château Les Noelles 2012 – rrp £6.99; Wine Rack
Fresh crisp green fruit aromas, Melon de Bourgogne at its best! The palate; a cool blend of green apples, soft biscuity yeast flavours, more reminiscent of Champagne but without the bubbles. Absolute steal!
Stobi Pinot Noir Rosé – rrp £8.99; Signature Wines
Vibrant red berries, strawberries on the nose with clean, but opulent, candied cherry fruit flavours. A fantastic dry Rosé from the heart of Macedonia’s Tikveš wine region. This is a classy example of what the Balkans has to offer now, and for the future.
Folding Hill Pinot Noir, Central Otago – rrp £20; The Secret Celler
A small winery situated in Bendigo, NZ, via Isle of Man native, Tim Kerruish. A superb mix of old and new world Pinot fruit characteristics! A whiff of traditional vegetal notes, accompanied by black bitter cherries on both nose and palate! Good to go now or hold back for a few years.
All prices correct at time of publication.
