Press Release: Canadian wineries return to the UK for trade and press tasting

Canada LogoCanadian wineries from Wine Country Ontario, British Columbia and Nova Scotia will return to the UK for a trade and press tasting at Canada House, Trafalgar Square on Thursday 16th May.
The REDISCOVER Canadian Wine tasting hosted by The Canadian High Commission will showcase red and white wines, as well as featuring sparkling wines and Icewine, from over twenty producers across Canada in order to highlight the diversity and quality of Canadian wine.
To ensure the tasting provides focus, wineries have been invited to select their best wines from a list of grape varieties including Pinot Noir, Bordeaux blends or varietals, Syrah, Gamay, Chardonnay and Riesling. They have also been invited to submit wine for an open‐pour tasting of sparkling wines.

In addition to the main tasting, a sparkling wine sommelier masterclass will take place from 10.30 to 11.45am showing up to ten sparkling wines. This will be followed by an agent and importer tasting from 4 to 6pm. The main tasting is open to all press and trade representing the on and off‐trades who are interested in sampling the excellent
and often surprising wines that Canada has to offer.
As noted by wine writer Stephen Brook who commented, “Canada has long been out of the ‘Promising Newcomer’ category. Its white wines from decidedly cool zones can be thrilling, and Pinot Noir gets better from year to year. These are wines we all need to discover.”
With reference to their suitability and relevance to the UK market, Gerard Basset OBE MW MS added, “I have discovered some superb wineries and producers with both flair and talent during my recent tour of Canadian wine regions. Some of the wines were truly delicious and would fit nicely on the wine lists of some of our best restaurants, here in
the UK.”

      Hi Veronica,

      How are you?

You can email or Westbury Communications are the UK PR company involved. They may have a spreadsheet already lined up for such a request. Alternatively if there is anything specific you require then I have the information as I attended the event in London.

Interesting masterclass on the sparkling wines of Nova Scotia, Ontario and British Columbia opened up the day. Tony Aspler gave a 10-15 introduction followed by discussions on each wine tasted by Peter Gamble, consultant at Benjamin Bridge, and Angelo Paven, winemaker at Cave Springs.

My personal highlights from the day were the sparklers from Nova Scotia, Ontario’s Cuvee Peter F.Huff 2007, Burrowing Owl Cabernet Sauvignon, GPE Estate Riesling from The Grange of Prince Edward Vineyards, and two Gamay wines, one from 13th Street Winery with their Gamay Noir Sandstone Reserve and finally Malivoire Wine Company M2 Small Lot Gamay.

Canada has some interesting wines that I can see need developing. You can see where the country is going and shows lots of potential. Would be good to see where these wines are in a few years.

The trick though is trying to convince the wine drinking British public to buy into them.
