Press Release – Marisco Vineyards’ Claims 7th Trophy in 3 Months

Marisco Vineyards has collected another trophy, this time for its King’s Favour Sauvignon Blanc 2011 winning ‘Best One Year Old Sauvignon Blanc’ at the Marlborough Wine Show on Saturday night. The win brings the company’s total trophy count for the past three months to seven, being the largest number of trophy wins in the shortest period of time in the company’s history.

Chief Winemaker and Proprietor Brent Marris commends the entire Marisco Vineyards team for the unprecedented run of awards. “Every winery hopes to be award winning, but the speed at which we are winning major accolades at the moment is mind-¬‐blowing,” he says. “It really is testament to the work of every person we employ, and their commitment to producing the best quality wines possible.”

The other trophies were won in competitions in the UK, Austria, China, Hong Kong and Australia. The Marlborough Wine Show was launched in 2011 to provide Marlborough, New Zealand’s largest wine producing region, with its own competition. Show organisers emphasise the importance of the awards in showing off Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, specifically showcasing style diversity within this grape variety. “Given how defining Sauvignon Blanc is for Marlborough, and for Marisco Vineyards, and the commercial importance of our current vintage, this is a particularly sweet trophy to win,” says Marris.

The King’s Favour 2011 has also recently been selected by Air New Zealand for their business class menu. “We have had a great reception to this wine in New Zealand and abroad, particularly in the northern hemisphere, and this trophy coupled with its selection by Air New Zealand, will play an important role as we embed The King’s Series brand in new markets,” says Marris.

The grapes for the 2011 King’s Favour Sauvignon Blanc were grown on the Marisco Vineyards property in the Waihopai Valley. This particular vineyard site has proven to be a winner, literally, with the company collecting eight trophies and 33 gold medals for wines produced from this site.

The win comes on the back of Marisco Vineyards’ other flagship Sauvignon Blanc, The Ned, winning the Trophy for Best Sauvignon Blanc under £10 at the Decanter World Wine Awards in September.

The King’s Favour Sauvignon Blanc is available at Majestic for £12.99

The Ned Sauvignon Blanc is available at Majestic, Waitrose and Co-op at £9.99
