Harpers – Champagne to take centre stage during Social Media Week

A week’s activity dedicated to the impact and role of social media taking place around the world later this month will feature a case study hosted in London on how Champagne has become a key discussion topic area in new media.

The Social Media Week, between September 24-28, will include a session from Jayne Powell, aka Champagne Jayne, entitled “Champagne – a social community uncorked” including a live-streamed Champagne social media masterclass with live talks direct from producers and Champagne houses.

Taking place between 2pm and 4pm on September 25 at the offices of social media consultants, Unruly on 42-46 Princelet Street, London, E1 the session will look at different Champagne styles and give those taking part the chance to discuss the wines directly with the producers in France as they go through the tasting.

Champagne Jayne told Harpers: “Social media has changed the way we communicate forever, but this tidal wave of peer-to-peer social networks and the bionic growth of real-time technologies like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter has also re- ignited the power of ‘community’ and collaboration. The power of social media is therefore sustained conversations that shape perceptions – which is where the ultimate icebreaker champagne pops up.”

The session is a precursor to the third Global Champagne Day taking place on October 28 which for the first time is looking to involve the UK trade with tastings and promotions in both the on and off-trades, following its success in the US and Australia in its first two years.
